"None of agreements signed by the Georgian authorities with other states and covering military, economic or other sphere, ever will be directed against interests of Armenia," visiting Yerevan the Georgian President Edward Shewardnadze stated while responding CNA's question on stirring up of Georgian-Turkish military cooperation and in this regard possible threat to the relations between Yerevan and Tbilisi.

Any independent state has right to build relations not only with its neighbors, but with other states as well. Shewardnadze said. According to him, Georgia byes insignificant amount of weapons within the frames of its cooperation with Turkey. Tbilisi is going to cooperation with Washington on these very grounds as well, the president added.

As for other directions of military cooperation, Shewardnadze said that these directions will be limited within the general ones for the states which became the European Union or claim for membership to EU. It would be difficult to exclude this element of cooperation in further boosting relations, Shewardnadze said.

However, relations with other states will never be directed against interests of Armenia. "We also know that you sign many agreements, and we knew that they are not directed against Georgia," the Georgian President said.

The Armenian President Robert Kocharian in his turn said that the Agreement on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual assistance signed today foresees that Georgia and Armenia will never make steps targeted against the interests of other state.
