Alexiy II took part in principal celebrations of 1700-anniversary dedicated to adoption of Christianity in Armenia as state religion. On September 22 the Patriarch was received by Catholicos of all Armenians Garekin II and Armenian President Robert Kocharian. On September 23 Alexiy II, as well as other guests of the state took part in opening ceremony and blessing of the biggest temple in Armenia - new Cathedral of Saint Gregory the Illuminator, the first Armenian Catholicos, in central Yerevan. CNA had already reported that the Pope John Paul II will arrive in Armenia on September 25. |
