The U.S. and Georgian Presidents, George Bush and Edward Shevardnadze, are to meet in Washington D.C. October 5.

Official from Georgian presidential administration Shalva Pichkhadze informed Prime News that the invitation of the Georgian President to Washington D.C. can be considered as a significant event for the states of Great Silk Road, in light of determination by the U.S. incumbent administration of the priorities of its foreign policy.

Pichkhadze announced that the presidents will discuss great many political and economic problems, situation in the region, perspectives of Georgian integration to the European and Euro-Atlantic areas. Besides, GUUAM perspectives (Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Moldova) and the problem of settling the Caucasus conflicts will be also touched upon during the meeting. Pichkhadze did not exclude discussion of Chechen conflict by the two presidents.
