Special representative of Iran for legal status of the Caspian Sea, deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Ali Ahani will negotiate on August 27-28 in Baku with the leadership of Azerbaijan, CNA was informed in the press office of Iran's Embassy to Baku.

According to diplomatic sources the main theme of the forthcoming meeting of Ahani with officials from the Azeri Foreign Ministry and presidential administration is to determine the borders of the Caspian Sea and elaboration of a number of disputable oil fields. It is expected that the Iranian official will be received by President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, who intends to pay an official visit to Iran in mid September.

In fact, this July relations between the both states escalated because of an incident at Alov oil field, which is disputed by the Iranian side. On July 23 Iran's military ships urged the Azeri patrol boat to leave the Southern sector of the Caspian Sea. Later the Iranian planes were flying over Alov oil field being explored by BP. This company stopped its activity until the dispute between Azerbaijan and Iran is settled.
