KAZAKH PRESIDENT WILL VISIT KYRGYZSTAN JULY 24-25

On July 24-25 the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev will visit Kyrgyzstan, the press office of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan informs.

It is expected that the security issues and the ones on boosting economic ties will be discussed during the visit. Moreover, it is expected that the Kazakh President will make a report in the University of Kyrgyzstan.

On April 8 of 1997 an agreement on friendship was signed by the both states. This document determines all-round cooperation between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

On October 15, 1992, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Kyrgyzstan exchanged notes on establishing diplomatic relations. In July of 1998 in Cholpon Ata, the presidents of the both states signed memorandum on delimitation of state borders. The sides had three rounds of negotiations on juridical status of Kazakh-Kyrgyz borders and are interested in completing the process of delimitation within this year.

In the sphere of trade and economic cooperation, last year a declining tendency in trade turnover was registered. However, from early 2000 a growing tendency is observed. Thus, the total volume of foreign trade turnover for 2000 made USD80.5 million (a 108.6% growth from the volume of trade over of 1999), of which import stands at USD 27.8 million, export - USD 52.6 million, with Kazakhstan’s positive balance at USD 24.8 million.

Kazakhstan mostly imports to Kyrgyzstan oil products, rolled metals, production of machine-building and processing of metals and raw for enterprises of light industry and some agricultural production etc. Kyrgyzstan exports to Kazakhstan electric power, quicksilver, stibium, electric engines, electric lamps, raw materials for light industry and foodstuff.
