Heavy fog believed to cause Almaty plane crash

"The plane, which was not allowed to land because of fog, began to turn, but get lost in poor visibility and crashed seven kilometers from the airport," representatives of the Almaty emergency department told journalists at the crash site.

The aircraft broke into two parts and caught fire presumably killing 20 or 22 people onboard.

As reported earlier, a plane crashed at 1:13 p.m. near Kyzyltu village of Almaty region on Tuesday.

The plane belonging to SCAT Airlines underwent repairs four months ago in Slovenia.
