This visit was part of a larger visit to the region which also included Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In Kazakhstan the delegation met with Kazakhstani government officials, including President Nazarbayev, and representatives of Kazakhstan's business and religious communities to discuss U.S-Kazakhstani bilateral relations, regional issues, and Kazakhstan's progress toward membership in the World Trade Organization, the press service of the US Diplomatic Mission to Kazakhstan reports.
Representative Dan Burton represents the Fifth Congressional District of Indiana and serves as a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia. His subcommittee conducts oversight of key aspects of U.S. foreign policy in Central Asia. Representative Meeks is the subcommittee's ranking Democratic Member. |
