The Energy Charter Secretariat together with JSC National Company KazMunayGas is preparing a report on the investment climate and the structure of the energy market of Kazakhstan, Kazinform has learnt.

For preparation of this report a delegation of the Secretariat of Energy Charter consisting of Director for Energy Efficiency and Investment Dario Chello and senior expert Zafar Samadov will visit Astana on 11 to 15 July. Representatives of the international organization will hold meetings with all partners in the energy sector of Kazakhstan, including government agencies, ministries, departments, agencies, national companies, international investors and international financial institutions.

The purpose of this report is an information exchange and cooperation between the Energy Charter member states. The report will include the updated information on the development of national economy, the basic statistical data on foreign direct investment, an in-depth analysis of the legal framework, as well as an overview of the investment climate and market structure in the energy sector of Kazakhstan.

The report is supposed to be presented in Brussels at a meeting of the Energy Charter Investment Group on September 25. As a result of the presentation and discussion the group will make political conclusions and recommendations to the Government of Kazakhstan and submit them to the Energy Charter Conference.

Kazakhstan is a member of the Energy Charter since 1998 after the Kazakh Parliament ratified the Energy Charter Treaty. Every year, delegations from Kazakhstan participate in the meetings of working groups of the Energy Charter, consider issues of cooperation between the member countries.

The Energy Charter Treaty plays an important role as part of an international effort to build a legal foundation for energy security, based on the principles of open, competitive markets and sustainable development.
