102 Kazakhstani athletes qualified for Summer Olympic Games in London

102 Kazakhstani athletes performing in 24 sports have qualified for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in London, Chairman of the Agency for Sports and Physical Culture Talgat

Yermegiyayev said, according to the Kazakh Prime Minister's official website.

Speaking at today's press conference, the Chairman of the Agency said that the preparation of Kazakhstan national team for the main sport event was at the high level. Presently, 102 Kazakhstani athletes performing in 24 sports were qualified for the Olympic Games.

According to T.Yermegiyayev, last year, Kazakhstani sportsmen won 15 medals including 2 gold medals, 7 silver and 6 bronze medals and were ranked 14th in the global ranking in terms of the number of won medals and 22nd in terms of won gold medals. This was an essential increase in the performance of the athletes.

For example, in 2007, Kazakhstan team took the 42nd place in the global ranking.

Upon the completion of the press conference, Chairman of the Agency for Sports and Physical Culture Talgat Yermegiyayev and CEO of "Samruk-Kazyna" Fund Umirzak Shukeyev signed a memorandum of cooperation within the process of preparation for and participation in the 30th Summer Olympic Games in London.

In accordance with the memo, the Fund was named the official partner of the national team of Kazakhstan at the upcoming 30th Summer Olympic Games and the 14th Paralympic Games in London.
