South Kazakhstan region has not seen such devastating floods in more than 50 years

First Vice Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov paid a working visit to South Kazakhstan region on Thursday.

He visited flood-hit rural districts and villages, met with residents, surveyed dams, bridges and ruined houses.

According to him, 7000 people, 350 units of equipment are involved in the prevention of emergency situation. The efforts of the Ministry of Emergencies and South Kazakhstan region's Akimat will allow to stabilize the situation in a week, Akhmetov said.

According to Akim of the region Askar Myrzakhmetov, last time a similar situation in South Kazakhstan was in 1956. At present, almost the whole territory of the region is hit by the disaster. But due to the preliminary work only 55 out of 226 settlements were flooded. "428 houses were affected by the floods in 55 settlements," Myrzakhmetov informed.
