No wheat spike in Afghanistan, PakistanRelated articlesAfghanistan appeals for food aid Afghanistan's Food Supply Is Least Secure in 163-Nation Ranking Kazakhstan price for wheat increased up to $240 for ton Kazakhstan to have problem of export of grain to Afghanistan through Uzbekistan No rise in bread and flour prices expected - Agriculture Ministry Ample wheat supplies worldwide appear to be easing the impact of Russia's export ban in Pakistan and Afghanistan, U.S. foreign aid officials said Monday.
The U.S. Agency for International Development said in a new food-supply alert that decreased exports have boosted the price of flour and bread somewhat for consumers in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan this summer, but not as sharply as has been seen in recent years.
"Given the good (grain) production prospects in Tajikistan and Afghanistan and the fact that prices have been relatively low in 2009?2010, the impact on food security in the short term is likely to be minor," the agency said in a written statement.
Drought-related drops in wheat production led Moscow to ban the export of wheat this summer. Losses in neighboring Ukraine and Kazakhstan also cut into the amount of grain on the market.
