Karachaganak Petroleum fined 3 billion KZT for infringement of nature protection legislation

Astana. February 26. Kazakhstan Today - The Office of Public Prosecutor of the Western Kazakhstan area has fined Karachaganak Petroleum Operating more than 3 billion KZT for infringement of the nature protection legislation, the agency reports citing the press service of the State Office of Public Prosecutor of Kazakhstan.

"The Nature Protection Office of Public Prosecutor of the Western Kazakhstan area during the check in regards to observance of the legislation regulating disposal, recycling and storage of industrial and household waste, revealed the facts of infringements of the nature protection legislation. It has established that the company JSC Karachaganak Petroleum Operating, having the right to subsoil use in the territory of the Western Kazakhstan area, in 2008 exceeded the maximum-permissible emissions established by the project and the permission limits of disposal of waste and emissions of polluting substances into the atmosphere."

According to Nature Protection Department of the Western Kazakhstan area, damage size of environmental contamination by the company has reached 3 089 503 979 KZT.
