"The global system of counteracting terrorism must be based on an absolute priority of the international law and implemented through coordination by the UN, its Security Council," - Nursultan Nazarbayev, president of Kazakhstan, stated speaking to the diplomatic corps accredited in Kazakhstan yesterday, 14 December.

"Today the international terrorism has become the main challenge," the president stressed. "More than a thousand organisations around the world use terrorism as a means to achieve their goals, it is growing rapidly and its cynicism has surpassed all possible limits," - N. Nazarbayev said. "Last September the whole world was shocked by a tragedy in Beslan, Russia, where the majority of victims were children," - he reminded. "This monstrous evil must be fought together, that is why Kazakhstan remains a firm supporter of collective efforts of the whole world community," - the president observed.

The head of state reminded that "Kazakhstan unconditionally supported the establishment of the counterterrorist coalition." "We will continue to fight terrorism, drug business, and drug traffic, which often feed it," - N. Nazarbayev said.

"On the regional level we suggest to strengthen the security system in such organisations as the SCO, the CSTO, the CICA," - the head of state said. In his view, the CICA can become an efficient mechanism of preventive diplomacy in Asia, where around 3 billion people live and which partakes a 45% share of the world gross product.
