Since 1989 in the oblast AIDS centre 67 HIV-infected persons have been registered. According to Tatjana Kassymova, the Centre epidemiologist, all patients, including 11 persons in the age between 16 and 29, are intravenous drug users. According to T.Kassymova, among the AIDS prevention measures the Centre practices free exchange of syringes and condoms distribution, medical and legal consultations among drug addicts, including that in the oblast districts. Besides, three trust points have been opened - by the drug addiction clinic, venereal clinic and one of town clinics. |
