President spoke with the head of Iran

The head of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, in his telephone conversation with the president of Iran Mohammad Khatami discussed issues of the development of bilateral economic relations, including those in energy, the presidential press service informs.

The report says that during the conversation both parties expressed the same position on the necessity of improvement of cooperation between the two countries on Caspian Sea, on the usage of transport corridor "North-South", speaking in favour of re-starting the Caspian summits on the highest level.

Also, issues of political situation in the region, in particular, problems of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, terrorism abatement were mentioned. The presidents informed each other about the economic and political situation in their countries. N. Nazarbayev expressed his hope that the current situation around Iraq would be resolved peacefully. М. Khatami invited the president of Kazakhstan to visit Iran officially.
