Foreign minister spoke at the UN commission for human rights

Kazakhstan has made its historical choice in favour of democracy, whose becoming process has become irreversible. This opinion has been expressed by the foreign minister of Kazakhstan Kassymzhomart Tokayev during his speech at the 60th session of UN commission for human rights dedicated to the democratic processes in Kazakhstan and the government activities on protecting basic human rights and freedoms, KZ-today has learned in the press service of the MFA of RK.

The minister has stressed in his speech that maintaining stability and interreligious accord in the Kazakhstani society, as well as successful implementation of socioeconomic and judicial reforms create favourable conditions for developing democracy, transforming political institutions, and strengthening the civil society. K. Tokayev has declared that Kazakhstan firmly adheres to its international commitments in human rights and is ready to co-operate actively with the UN humanitarian structures, in the first place, with the UN commission for human rights, in resolving complicated problems of human rights.

The head of MFA of RK has drawn the audience's attention to the fact that Kazakhstan has joined international pacts on human rights, introduced the death penalty moratorium, pays primary attention to gender issues, child rights, fighting poverty, which testifies a serious approach and the interest of the republic in providing and protecting political and civil rights of its citizens.

Speaking on the subject of terrorism dominating at the session, K. Tokayev has observed that Kazakhstan occupies a principled position on international terrorism representing a serious threat to the world security. In relation with this the minister has expressed an opinion that it is necessary to create a comprehensive system of aversion towards terrorism, because it is a direct encroachment on the human rights. At the same time K. Tokayev has observed that the terrorism problem cannot be resolved without efficient measures in socioeconomic area, aimed at diminishing poverty and increasing the level of life.

The foreign minister of RK has also stated that the commission for human rights must show the due objectivity in evaluating the situation with human rights in different countries. Such analysis should be based on the presence of positive evolution in the provision of human rights and a wish of governments to abide by provisions of international pacts and agreements.

Within one month the current session of the UN commission for human rights will review the situation with breaches of human rights in different world countries and will pass corresponding resolutions.
