President stresses importance of documents to be passed by the CICA meeting

The catalogue of confidence measures that participants of the ministerial meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence in Asia (CICA) "will become a chief tool for overcoming contradictions and strengthening confidence in Asia." Nursultan Nazarbayev, president of RK, has stated this at the summit of the CICA foreign ministers today, October 22, in Almaty.

According to N. Nazarbayev, in this document "the Asian states have defined a set of measures in the military, political, economic, humanitarian, and other areas." "The documents opens new horizons for mutually beneficial co-operation and neighbourly relations in our region," - N. Nazarbayev has observed. "It is a timely contribution to the world community efforts on counteracting international terrorism, uniting the Asian continent against this evil, and it will become a worthy contribution to fighting new challenges and threats," - the head of state has stressed.

Besides, the president has reminded that the meeting participants "have to pass a document that is not less important -rules of CICA procedures."

"The completion of an organisational formation of the Conference, the creation of its secretariat open a way to a practical implementation of the declaration of principles of the catalogue of confidence building measures, and accession of other countries to the forum," - the president believes.

The organisation includes 16 states - Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Uzbekistan. Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka Ukraine, USA, Vietnam have observer statuses in the organization. Foreign ministers of all member states apart from Egypt have arrived in Almaty.
