Kazakhstan faces a necessity of widening the range of Internal Security Troops functions - Inner Troops Commander

Due to destabilization in Central Asian region, spreading of extremism and international terrorism an issue of widening the range of functions of Internal Security Troops of RK, changes to its command and possibilities of being appled not only in permanent dislocation areas, but also away from them with a high level of manouvering and mobility. This opinion was expressed today, on 10 October at the meeting of Senate Committee for International Affairs, Defense, and Security, by Lieutenant-General Kairbek Suleimenov, Internal Security Troops Commander, as we were advised by PR Department of the Senate of Parliament of RK.

New tasks of Internal Security Troops are exposed in the draft Law, suggesting introduction of due changes and amendments to the Law of RK "On Internal Security Troops of MIA of RK".

The draft Law provides that the functions of Internal Security Troops include fighting against illegal armed entities, subversive activity, terrorist acts, armed fights and separation of fighting parties, localization, blockage and extermination of armed entities in the regions of conflicts, dispossession of arms from population. The draft Law concretizes the structure and content of the Internal Security Troops, in particular strategic troops availability was agreed, as well as security guards, escort, and special motorized divisions. The Law will approve assistance to the Inner Troops, providing security of the regional territories on the part of local authorities.

Within the broadened functions of Internal Security Troops an establishment of General Headquarters is provided as the main operating authority. Internal Security Troops Commander also informed the deputies on the current state of the troops and their actual capacities in security provision. K.Suleimenov advised that the level of technical equipment, armament and procurement for the strategic troops is in complete compliance with the military threats that may occur.
