A new 18 km long road of national significance Shemonaikha - customs checkpoint "Ubah" will be commissioned in August in Shemonaikha district, East Kazakhstan province, which will reduce the way between Barnaul and Ust-Kamenogorsk by 90 km, KZ-today correspondent has been advised by the governor of Shemonaikha district, East Kazakhstan province Grigory Akulov during an international journalist raid, organised by the Customs Control Agency of RK.

Currently the road leading from Shemonakiha town to the Russian border does not have hard coverage. As a result, G. Akulov said, a big part of freight, delivered from Russia to Ust-Kamenogorsk, Zyryanovsk, Ridder and back has to pass remote customs checkpoints "Zhezkent" and "Auyl". "Each businessman counts his money and a part of the freight passes through the "Ubah" checkpoint, but from March to May, when it rains, the earth road regularly crumbles, making the checkpoint impassable for transport. Local industrial ventures that have to import their products also suffer from it."

The construction of the road started in May 2004. Its cost is 141 million tenge. The money has been allocated from the national budget.
