A feasibility study of a modernisation of two Baku refineries has been completed, KZ-today has been advised by the SOCAR. An American company ABB Lummus carried out the feasibility study.

The SOCAR informs that currently the primary engineering is to be carried out and after that the detailed engineering. The modernisation of the two refineries will allow to increase the depth of oil processing to 80%. Currently it is 60%.

The SOCAR observed that if the Kazakhstani oil complies with the Azeri oil quality, it will be pumped through Baku-Tbilisi-Cheyhan pipeline, if it is lower, the Azeri oil will be pumped through it and Kazakhstani oil will be processed at the refineries. When the refineries are modernised the local oil products quality will improve either and it will be possible to sell them on higher prices.
