By 1 January, 2003, there were 3,257 officially registered cases of HIV-infection, including 85 persons with AIDS, 72 of which have died, KZ-today has been advised in the press service of the ministry of health of RoK.

In 2002, according to the ministry of health, there were 735 officially registered cases of HIV-infection and 28 persons with AIDS, which was less by 37.4% as compared to 2001.

Pavlodar, Karaganda and South Kazakhstan oblasts are considered to be the most problematic, where 70.1% of all the disease are observed, the ministry noted.
