52 international observers to monitor the elections to the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan

The CEC has accredited 43 representatives from CIS countries including Russia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Georgia and Belarus. 9 representatives from Turkey, Mongolia, Latvia, Lithuania and the International Foundation for Election Systems will be also observing the elections. As reported before, the terms of office for 16 senators elected September 17, 1999 expire this year. According to the CEC, 78 candidates have been nominated to the Senate of Kazakhstan Parliament. 41 candidates are registered. 23 persons recalled their applications. As of August 16, the number of candidates for deputies has decreased to 41.
