Radioactive waste removed from Aktobe oblast

In Aktobe oblast the Emergency Management Department started to remove radioactive waste, that was stored on the territory of the oblast for 10 years, KZ-today correspondent informs.

As Sagyngali Altynbaev, deputy of the EMD has said, all the radioactive waste, will be taken to a depository close to Kurchatov on the territory of the former Semipalatinsk nuclear testing ground. For this the Department in the end of the last year has concluded an agreement with the specialised firm "GIS".

According to S.Altynbaev, the company services will be paid at the expense of the budget. In general, according to his information, around 3 million tenge have been allocated in the local treasury for the program of the radioactive waste removal.

In total, on the territory of Aktobe oblast there are more than 80 ampule sources of radiation. These are elements of the medical instruments that are out of order, airplanes spare details, industrial production hard waste and many other. Earlier the radiation sources were stored close to Khlebodarovka village near Aktobe. Last autumn the specialists from "GIS" took them to a temporary storage at the testing ground close to oil workers camp Zhana Zhol, Mugolzhar district.

Currently seven enterprises using radiation sources operate in the oblast.
