International conference "Almaty - crossroads of civilisation"

An international scientific conference "Almaty - crossroads of civilisations: the past, the present, and the future" has opened today, on 6 April, in Almaty, KZ-today correspondent reports.

The conference is carried out in accordance with a decree by the president of RK "On state programme "Cultural heritage" as of 13 January, 2004, and the Year of Russia in Kazakhstan.

Scientists and specialists in history from Russia, France, Japan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan participate in the conference.

The conference main targets are attraction of leading scientists from Kazakhstan and other countries to create a fuller picture of the development of Almaty and the region in general in historical, geographic, political, and economic aspects, including the definition of the city date of origin.

Besides, among the conference tasks there is creation of a comprehensive system of Almaty cultural heritage studies.

The conference particularity is the fact that the scientists and specialists in Central Asian history will read lectures in the biggest Almaty Universities.
