Flow diversion from Shardara to Arnasai depression increases

Uzbekistan increases the flow diversion from the Shardara water reservoir to Arnasai depression as per interstate agreements, Nurlan Atshabarov, deputy chairman of the committee for water resources, Ministry of Agriculture, has advised KZ-today.

N. Atshabarov has said that the venture serving the diversion channel between the Shardara water reservoir and Arnasai depression settled the water withdrawal yesterday, February 16, and as a result the water discharges were reduced to 400 cm/sec. However on the same day the diversion was increased up to 500 cm/sec.

Also in accordance with appropriate agreements, Kyrgyzstan must reduce the water discharges from the Toktogul water reservoir to 600 cm/sec. However, Bishkek fails to implement its undertakings.

N. Atshabarov has said that currently the water discharges from Shardara to Syr Daria river current are 700 cm/sec. To have a reserve in the reservoir for the time of spring floods the water discharges must be increased. However, it can cause flooding in separate districts of Kzylorda region.
