Kazakhstan Today - The head of the state, Nursultan Nazarbayev, met the participants of the forthcoming III Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions opened today in Astana, the agency reports citing the president's press service.
According to the press service, during the meetings in Akorda, the officials exchanged opinions on the role of religious leaders in construction of the world based on tolerance, mutual respect and cooperation.
"The General Secretary of the Saudi Arabia-based World Muslim League, Abdalla ben Abdel Muhsin At-Turki, thanked the President for the invitation to take part in the work of the congress and passed the greeting from the King of Saudi Arabia Abdullah," the press service informs.
"We, in Saudi Arabia, and, in particular, in the World Muslim League, highly appreciate your efforts towards development of mutual relations. We are also ready to develop bilateral relations and intend to open in Kazakhstan the regional representation of the World Muslim League next year," Sheikh said.
During the meetings, the officials discussed non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. William F. Vendley, Secretary General of the World Conference of Religions for Peace, said, "In this question, Kazakhstan, having voluntary refused its nuclear arsenal, has the leading position in Central Asia."
N. Nazarbayev met General Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), Ishmael Noko, who emphasized the importance of III Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions for strengthening of international concord.
The State Minister of the Turkish Republic, Faruk Celik, passed to the leader of Kazakhstan, N. Nazarbayev, a personal message from the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Erdogan.
"During the meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, we discussed current condition of Kazakhstan-Turkish cooperation and prospects of development of the relations between our countries," F. Celik said.
