US government welcomes initiative of Kazakhstan to set up bank of nuclear fuel in its territory

June 11. Kazakhstan Today - The American government welcomes the initiative of Kazakhstan to set up a bank of nuclear fuel in its territory. The American Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Richard Haugland, said at the press conference on Wednesday, the agency reports.
"Kazakhstan - the leader in the field of maintenance of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and, consequently, the American government welcomes the initiative of Kazakhstan to set up the bank of nuclear fuel in the Republic," R. Haugland said.
He reminded that now the government of Kazakhstan has been carrying on the negotiations with IAEA to present the ideas on creation of the bank of nuclear fuel and to discuss working conditions in this direction.
As informed earlier, Kazakhstan had suggested setting up the bank of nuclear fuel in its territory. "If the bank of nuclear fuel for nuclear energy is created, Kazakhstan suggests its territory for setting up of such a bank as the country that signed the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty and voluntary refused its nuclear weapons," N. Nazarbayev informed.
