US NNSA declared of disposal of 73 kg nuclear fuel wastes from Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan Today - The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) of the USA declared on disposal of 73.7 kg (162.5 pounds) of nuclear fuel wastes made of highly enriched uranium (HEU) of the Russian origin from Kazakhstan, the agency reports citing the press service of the American Embassy.
According to the press service, the materials were taken out of the country and returned to Russia by railway in four consignments from December, 2008 till May 2009 to be storaged in safe nuclear storehouses.
"Disposal of highly enriched uranium from Kazakhstan is continuation of cooperation between NNSA and the government of Kazakhstan and an important step towards national and world security," NNSA Administrator Thomas D'Agostino said.
