Unemployment rate in I quarter made 6.9 %

Astana. April 14. Kazakhstan Today - Unemployment rate in Kazakhstan in I quarter of 2009 has totaled 6.9 %, the agency reports citing the Statistics Agency of Kazakhstan.

"According to the preliminary data on employment of the population, in I quarter of 2009 the number of unemployed reached 582.8 thousand people, or by 23.6 thousand people or (4.2 %) more than in the last quarter. Unemployment rate has been 6.9 % (in IV quarter of 2008 - 6.6 %)," the Statistics Agency informs.

According to the Statistics Agency, 71.2 thousand people (0.8 % of economically active population) have been officially registered in employment agencies of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of Kazakhstan as unemployed people as of the end of March, 2009.

In March, 2009, the number of unemployed has reached 589.6 thousand people.
