VIII ILO European Regional Meeting began its work

Almaty. February 10. Kazakhstan Today - VIII European Regional Meeting of the member countries of the International Labor Organization (ILO) devoted to search of approaches to maintenance of worthy work in Europe and Central Asia started its work in Lisbon today. Its participants will discuss the measures to restraint unemployment and oppose social shocks caused by the global crisis, the agency reports citing the UN News Center.

The meeting delegates will consider the ILO report, which draws attention to the fact that the consequences of the economic and financial crises for labor markets have already influenced the whole region. For the first time, since the middle of 90th, the tendency towards decrease of the unemployment rate in Central and Southeast European and the Commonwealths of Independent States (CIS) countries has been reduced to ashes.

In 2008, unemployment in this region has reached 8.8 %. In 2009, unemployment rate in the countries of Central and Southeast Europe and the CIS states will grow up to 9.8 %. In the states of the European Union the number of employed persons in 2008 decreased by 3.5 million people. In 2009, unemployment in the EU will increase up to 8.7 % and in 2010 - up to 9.5 %.

As informed earlier, Kazakhstan delegation headed by Vice Minster of Labor and Social Protection, Gulnara Dilimbetova, will take part in VIII European ILO Regional Meeting, which began its work in Lisbon.
