February 4. Kazakhstan Today - The chairman of the National Bank, Grigory Marchenko, during the press conference today stated devaluation should not have been carried out, yet there was no clearness with large banks in Kazakhstan, the agency reports.
"It was not right to carry out devaluation, yet there was no clearness with the large banks in Kazakhstan because the banks, in such conditions, would not have sustained this devaluation," G. Marchenko said.
"They can now survive devaluation owing to the fact that the state 'pours in the money' into the banks."
