Kazakhstan Today - The chairman of the UN regional center for preventive diplomacy for Central Asia, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, Miroslav Encha, visited Kazakhstan, the agency reports.
"Our purpose is to work with the governments, especially with the Central Asian countries, the international organizations, and with the UN structures in the direction of prevention of conflicts and decrease of diplomatic pressure. We discussed the problems of transboundary criminality, illegal migration, drug trafficking, and struggle against extremism and terrorism," the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General emphasized.
"Also the parties discussed hydro-power issues, preparation for winter in the region not to allow the same critical situation as last year, especially in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan," M. Encha informed.
"The third issue is Afghanistan. We spoke about safety in the Central Asian region and the possible consequences, concerning safety in Central Asia," he concluded.
"The UN regional center for preventive diplomacy for Central Asia was opened on December 10, 2007 after the reached consensus by the governments of five Central Asian countries.
