USA opposes creation of Gas OPEC - USA Energy Minister

Baku. November 14. Kazakhstan Today - The USA negatively took the idea of creation of Gas OPEC created by Iran, Russia and Qatar, the USA Minister of Energy, Samuel Bodman, informed at the press conference in Baku on Thursday, the agency reports.

"Creation of such a structure is not a positive signal for consumers of natural gas in Europe and cannot positively affect them. We think that the result of such processes is that prices for gas in a number of countries differ and this tendency proceeds," S. Bodman said.

Iran stated the idea of creation of Gas OPEC. The created platform will promote development of the universal formula of the price for gas, use of spot deliveries in case of gas deficit under long-term contracts, and defining of prospects of construction of new gas mains. The countries-consumers, on the contrary, are concerned by similar initiatives. They are afraid that creation of gas cartel will lead to increase of prices on one of the most popular kinds of energy resources.
