August 19. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan welcomes signing a peace plan for settling the conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia. The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, informed answering questions of journalists during a weekly briefing on Monday, the agency reports.
"We welcome signing the peace plan for settling the conflict, the format of which has been coordinated by the Presidents of Russia and France and signed later by Georgia and South Ossetia. It is, certainly, a positive fact, which creates a political-legal basis for resolution of this conflict," Y. Ashikbayev said.
"We consider that the settlement should take place in the legal format defined by the UN Charter, OSCE Helsinki Final Act and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of 1966," the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
