Admission of final-year students of 2008 to be based on UNT results

Astana. April 1. Kazakhstan Today - Admission of final-year students of 2008 to higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan will be based on the results of the unified national testing (UNT), the agency reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan.

"According to Kazakhstan Law On Education UNT - one of the forms of final attestation of the students of secondary education combined with the entrance examinations in the educational institutions providing post-secondary or higher education," the press service explains.

The Ministry of Education informs that in 2008 UNT will be conducted in 5 disciplines: mathematics, the native language, history of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh language for schools with the Russian language of instruction, Russian for schools with the Kazakh language of instruction and an optional subject. Thus, according to item 4, article 9 of Kazakhstan Laws On Education the state and the Russian languages are the compulsory disciplines included in UNT program.

"UNT will be held on June 1-10. The number of test tasks on each subject totals 25. Total number of tasks that should be finished within 3 astronomical hours (180 minutes) will be 125," the press service of the ministry explains.

By the UNT results final-year students receive the certificate and the school-leaving certificate. To participate in the competition on awarding educational grants by the UNT results one needs to have minimum level - 50 out of 100 points (in four disciplines), in profile discipline - not fewer than 7 points and in the rests - not fewer than 3 points. The certificate is valid till December 31, 2008.

"The competition on awarding educational grants will be in four UNT disciplines: mathematics, the native language, history of Kazakhstan and an optional subject," the press service informs. "The results of the Kazakh language for Russian schools and the Russian language for schools with the Kazakh language of instruction will not influence the results of admission to higher educational institutions," the Ministry of Education and Science informed.
