First session of committee for organization of 17th session of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly took place in Astana

Astana. March 18. Kazakhstan Today - The first session of the organizing committee under the presidency of the Speaker of the Senate Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev for preparation and carrying out of the 17th session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on June 28 - July 3, 2008 took place in Astana, the Senate press service informed the agency.

"Defining priorities of the working group, K. Tokayev emphasized special importance of the forum in the context of the forthcoming chairmanship of Kazakhstan in OSCE in 2010, as well as strengthening of the international image of the country as an authoritative and responsible member of the world community," the message widespread by the press service states.

Concerning an increasing role of our country in the region, its active participation in global processes of the modern world, the chairman of the organizing committee noted that these obvious achievements are the important basis in realization of foreign policy initiatives of the President N. Nazarbayev stated in the Message to the people of Kazakhstan.

He emphasized symbolic character of the fact that "such an important event will take place before celebration of the 10 anniversary of the capital of our state.
