International conference on Aral issues taking place in Tashkent

Minsk. March 12. Kazakhstan Today - The international conference Aral Problems: its influence on genetic fund of the population, flora and fauna and measures of the international cooperation on mitigation of their consequences is taking place in Tashkent on March 11-12, the agency reports referring to the press service of CIS Executive Committee.

According to the press service, the conference is organized by the government of Uzbekistan and the UNDP. The scientists, representatives of the international, nongovernmental, donor organizations, and mass media are taking part in the forum.

Ecological crisis of Aral Sea is recognized by the international community as one of the most significant anthropogenous accidents, which have caused irreversible climatic changes that today negatively influence life of millions of people living in the region of Aral and all Central Asia. To solve the environmental problems of the Aral Sea during the conference in March, 1993 with participation of the leaders of the Central-Asian states the International fund of Aral rescue was created.
