Geneva. March 5. Kazakhstan Today - It is necessary to stir up the negotiation process concerning prospects of the Contract for Strategic Offensive Arms. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Marat Tazhin informed at the Geneva plenary session of the Conference on Disarmament.

"Kazakhstan recognizes importance of the work done by the USA and Russia on the Contract for Strategic Offensive Arms, directed at reduction of their nuclear arsenals. Considering expiration term of the Contract -the end of 2009, it is necessary to stir up the negotiation process concerning prospects of the contract," the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan stated.

Foreign Minister of the country expressed opinion that "the new document or the arrangement should contain concrete measures on reduction of both strategic carriers, and nuclear weapons."

"We also welcome open discussions within the limits of the Conference on disarmament on the status and rates of nuclear reduction," he added. Nevertheless, M. Tazhin considers, it is not enough for guaranteeing irreversibility of the process. "It is required much more efforts towards the world free from nuclear weapons," the Minister emphasized.
