Qatar expressed interest in joining CICMA

Astana. March 5. Kazakhstan Today - Qatar expresses interest in becoming full member of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building in Asia (CICMA). The emir of Qatar sheikh Hamad ben Caliph Al Tani said during the meeting with the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, the agency reports referring to the president's press service.

According to the press service, the application of Qatar will be considered at the forthcoming Meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of CICMA member states in August, 2008.

The parties expressed interest in development of cooperation within the limits of international and regional organizations, including the United Nations Organization and the Organization of Islamic Conference.

The Kazakhstan party, highly estimating important role of Doha in development of the dialogue between civilizations and religions, invited Qatar to cooperate within the limits of the Congress of leaders of world and traditional religions, the message of the press service informed.

Qatar party expressed support to the Kazakhstan initiative on convocation of the Forum of Ministers for Foreign Affairs - Common World: Progress through Variety planned in Astana for October, 2008 and directed at discussion of the problems of international relations, modernization, economic cooperation, mutual adaptation of cultures, and analysis of the role of mass media in this process.

The parties agreed on carrying out of the regular political consultations between the Ministries for Foreign Affairs of two countries on various problems of the international and regional character representing mutual interest, and the questions of further development of bilateral cooperation. In response to opening of the embassy of Kazakhstan in Doha in 2007, Qatar party informed on establishment of its diplomatic representation in Astana.
