Almaty to become participant of relay race of Olympic Fire

Astana. July 11. Kazakhstan Today - Almaty for the first time has become one of the cities through which sacred Olympic Fire before the Olympic Games of 2008 in Pekin will be carried through. The Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov informed on Tuesday at the government session, the agency reports.

"For the first time in history of Olympic movement Almaty has been honored to become the third city after Athens and Pekin, on the territory of which relay race of the Olympic Fire will be carried through," T. Dosmukhambetov said.

The Minister specified that all 22 countries of the world will be involved in the organization and carrying out of the relay race before the Pekin Olympiad.

According to the press service of the Tourism Ministry, the Olympic Fire lit in Greece will be delivered to Pekin, whence then will arrive in Almaty and in other countries - participants of relay race with the subsequent return to the capital of the Peoples Republic of China.
