Kazakhstan to initiate holding of 18th WTO General Assembly in Astana

Almaty. April 27. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan is planning on initiating to hold the 18th World Tourist Organization (WTO) General Assembly in Astana. The Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan Evgeny Nikitinsky said during the briefing, the agency reports.

According to E. Nikitinsky, in May 2007, during the 17th session of WTO General Assembly that will take place in India, "Kazakhstan will initiate carrying out of the 18th General Assembly of the organization in Kazakhstan, in Astana."

According to the representative of the ministry, Kazakhstan plans to propose the country as a candidate for the WTO executive council.

The WTO General Assembly, consisting of representatives of full members, is its supreme body. The regular sessions gather its members twice a year; under special circumstances it can call extraordinary sessions. The Assembly can discuss any question being within the scope of WTO activity.
