Kazakhstan to become investor number one for Georgia - Zurab Nogaideli

Tbilisi. April 6. Kazakhstan Today - In 2007 Kazakhstan can become investor number one for Georgia, the Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Nogaideli in Tbilisi said on Thursday at the joint press conference after the meeting with his Kazakh counterpart Karim Masimov, the agency reports.

According to Z. Nogaideli, it is very important for Georgia that the Kazakhstan companies consider the opportunity to participate in construction of Batumi oil refining factory and granary in port Poti and started to invest the project of the South Caucasian transport corridor.

South Caucasian corridor should become a very favorable route and Georgia will create all conditions to increase the flow of transit cargoes from Kazakhstan.

In his turn, K. Masimov stated that Kazakhstan would continue to invest into the Georgian economy, including construction of granary in Poti and the project on development of petroleum-refining industry of Georgia.

According to the Prime Minister, Kazakhstan is interested in transportation of wheat, energy resources and other products through this corridor, but all these questions should be considered with participation of all interested parties and it is a subject of further negotiations.

Commenting on the meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia, K. Masimov informed that the parties discussed very important issues including cooperation in the spheres of energy, gas, oil and investment of the Kazakhstan companies into the Georgian economy.

One of the stimuli for attraction of new investments into the Georgian economy became the meeting of the Presidents of Georgia and Kazakhstan in March, 2006.

The Kazakhstan delegation headed by the Prime Minister K. Masimov arrived in Tbilisi on Wednesday with a two-day official visit. During the visit the trip to the Western Georgia where the delegation will see the Kazakhstan investment objects in the resort city of Kobuleti, oil terminal and sea trading port in Batumi has been scheduled.
