Baku hosts summit of ECO member states

Baku. May 5. Kazakhstan Today - Baku hosts 9th summit of member states and the governments of the countries - members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). The meeting was headed by the President of Azerbaijan Ylham Aliyev.

"We will exchange opinions, hold a very productive dialogue, will try to make the decision for further practical steps within ECO limits," Y .Aliyev said at the summit opening ceremony.

"We are in a very important and sensitive region where there are conflicts, dangers and risks. In these conditions very much depends on our attitudes. I do not doubt that ECO will accomplish entrusted responsibilities with honor. Our relations will strengthen both in bilateral and multilateral format and will render positive influence on the region," the President of Azerbaijan concluded. The representative of Pakistan Hurshid Anvar was elected new ECO Secretary General at the summit.

Note: Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey for the purpose of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the Member States. In 1992, the Organization was expanded to include seven new members, namely: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
