Azerbaijan ratified Frame convention on Caspian environment protection

Baku. April 18. Kazakhstan Today - Azerbaijan ratified Frame convention on protection of the Caspian Sea environment. The decree was signed by the President of Azerbaijan Ylham Aliyev, the agency correspondent reports with the reference to official mass media.

The purpose of the convention is protection of the Caspian Sea environment against all sources of pollution, preservation and rational use of the Caspian Sea resources. The document also provides independent or joint acceptance of all corresponding measures for pollution prevention and protection, preservation and restoration of the Caspian Sea environment.

One of major principles by which agreeing parties are guided at performance of convention regulations, is the principle according to which the party rendering adverse influence on the sea is to bear charges on realization of prevention, control and pollution decrease of the Caspian Sea environment.

The document was signed on November 3-4 in Teheran by Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Later Turkmenistan joined them.
