Kazakhstan and China will be connected with seven new transport routes
On the results of four days negotiations of the transportation bodies delegations of China and Kazakhstan in Urumchi reached agreement on opening of seven direct passenger and freight automobile routes in 2008, People's Daily reports.
According to the agreement of both sides, between China and Kazakhstan four direct highways for freight transport will be opened on May 1: Urumchi-Khorgos-Karaganda (Kazakhstan), Urumchi-Zimunai-Karaganda, Urumchi-Baketu-Karaganda and Urumchi-Alashankou-Karaganda.
Three direct passenger automobile roads will be opened on September 1 between two countries: Urumchi-Zimunai-Karaganda, Urumchi-Baketu-Karaganda and Urumchi-Alashankou-Karaganda.
At present between Xingjian Uigur Autonomous Region and five out of eight contiguous countries there are 101 trans-border passenger and freight routes, which are already opened. Namely, China and Kazakhstan are connected by 64 highways.
Kazakhstan is a leader among Central Asia on number of transborder highways, connecting with China.
